I’m done.

Finished. Gone. When and why did I think it was a good idea to spend time around normal people? People that could get hurt? It’s best if I just stay away from… anyone. From now until the Kangom… whatever.

Dearest Marlena— I hope you stay safe well. And find someone else. I’m sure you’ll move on. You deserve so much better. And, if anything, do it for me. I’m sorry, but I’m gone now. I’m not going to risk you, or anyone else. Remember, though, please. That I love you. Loved, love, and will. You’re the best person I found, and the first reason I had to stay in one place for more than a little at a time. Thank you for… Everything.

Daniel— We never got the chance to talk as much as we should have, but you’re a great person. Life with magic any kind of ability… it’s hard, really. It might be something that people are jealous of, but what comes with it, the choices behind it, I’m not that great with. But that’s probably obvious, and it’s history now. So, thank you.

Emmaline— That hospital… I took all kinds of wrong turns in, but striking up short conversation with you was one of the first most interesting things to happen to me in a while at that point, well, beyond the family… But nevermind that. You’re a great person, and even though some… weird stuff has happened to you, don’t let it take over your chance to live and experience, because it can be gone like… well, like that.

Calliope— I won’t forget you.  Even though I might not be the most memorable person. But for me, we had that… well… interesting time. I can’t judge for that. I think it’s pretty cool that there’s a school for people with magic, and I’m sure you’ll keep doing brilliantly. Wow. That sounds too cliche. But it’ll have to do.

Nu uh! She laughs and tugs him close.

…. Yeah-huh! He laughs as he’s pulled closer. He wraps his arms around her. I think you’d be better off agreeing with me! He sticks out his tongue a bit.

Kai tilted his head, “Sweet? Really? Huh. Anyhow, where’re you from, George? That accent, I mean?”

Yeah, sweet. Not a lot of folks’d say that and all, know what I mean? Huh—Oh! San Jose, originally.

“Right! Okay. Well, I’m not a lot of people,” he grins. “San Jose? California, right?” He pauses for a moment, then nods. “Yeah, I think it is, anyway. I’m from Scotland myself, actually.”

instinctiveinnocence:

Nope, nope, nope!

‘Nope, nope, nope’? I think you have that one wrong. Maybe you meant something more along the lines of: ‘Yep, yep, yep!’

[Grins slightly] Didn’t mean to but yeah, I did. It’s not just good, it’s pretty good, heh. [Flinches] Aw Jesus, that was a shitty joke, sorry.

He shrugged, “We all do things we don’t mean to do. Whether it’s falling asleep in a tree or… anything, really, I suppose.” Kai laughed, “It wasn’t all that bad of a joke. Surprised I didn’t say it myself…”

[She half grins, shrugging her shoulders] S’not m’best work but it’s definitely not the worst either. But hey, thanks. That’s really sweet of you to say.

Kai tilted his head, “Sweet? Really? Huh. Anyhow, where’re you from, George? That accent, I mean?”

Dan knew many travelers that didn’t know how to cook at all. He didn’t find it that odd… Of course, on the other hand he had it in his mind that every single person should know how to make a few decent meals. Just for everyday needs. “Alright, you just let me know when you can and I’ll show you some basics” he said with a grin. Turning the talk away to powers, they could agree on some things. Some more that other really, but Dan liked the way Kai spoke of his powers and about aging. It reminded him just how much he always wanted to be able to do anything supernatural. Before his mind wondered off, he shook his head and listened to him finishing the sentence. “I think I can agree to most of that” he just nodded his head.

He smiled at the other male as he ordered the same dish he was having and looked back at Mandie when she took the order and started walking away. “Sweet girl” he commented, turning his head back towards Kai. He was trying to find a normal and casual topic tot alk about and not many things popped up in his head. “Do you have any siblings?” was his first question. He always found a normal family chat an okay topic so he went for it first. The only bad thing about it is he never could actually know if the other person’s family is alive, or keeping in touch, and he hoped things won’t turn out awkwardly. He played with the napkin on the table, twisting it’s ends while waiting for a reply.

In his defence, Kai wasn’t the worst cook he’d ever known. Growing up on an estate of children with abilities, some of them took more mundane things- like cooking and the like- less seriously. “Sounds good!” He smiled at the thought. He could do with being able to make something, at least. And he nodded, “I try for reasonable opinions about that, really. If nothing else. Some people that don’t age don’t really have much of a choice in the matter…”

At Dan’s question, he frowned. “Ah… I don’t really know, actually. If I have- or had- siblings.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “I haven’t found anyone who knew my parents well enough.” Then he explained, “I grew up in a foster system… my parents were killed when I was born. And beyond that… I have no idea about my biological family.” He paused for a moment, watching his friend twist the napkin. Then asked: “What about you, though?”

She leans forward and smiles, kissing his nose.

Smiling, See there? Lovely. And I’m going to add adorable onto that list now.

[Shrugs her shoulders, squinting a little] Tired, mostly. A little sore too but that’s what I get for fallin’ asleep in a tree, other than those little fun highlights to m’day, pretty good, thanks.

Kai tilted his head, “You fell asleep… in a tree? Well, I can’t judge, I guess. I’ve heard stranger. Anyway, ‘pretty good’ is good, I suppose.”

Blinking and looking away, she felt the temperature of her cheeks rise at his words. Marlena couldn’t believe this was happening. It was like some foreign concept — which made her feel stupid. Of course she knew she wasn’t but she couldn’t help it as the thoughts passed through her head. Smiling sheepishly at Kai as he held the door open, she slipped inside and turned to face him, “Uh.. so there’s this really neat place in the back. You go.. you.. you um..” She scratched at her nose, the nerves nearly taking over, “You go up a stairway and it’s kind of like this little mini library space. And n-no one really knows about it s-s-so I fiiiguuured…w-we..could go back there. Yeah.” She nodded and held her hands behind her back, her fingers curling together as she fidgeted where she stood.

He smiled at her reaction. He had a different view on women than most other men. Call him old fashioned, but his train of thought to make them feel special, over all. Because they were. Whether that was a compliment, or simply holding the door- as he would run to do for anyone, regardless.

After Marlena went past him and through the door to the relatively large, open library, Kai followed. He nodded, listening to her explain about the room she knew of. “That sounds like a good idea for us. Lead the way?” He asked, lightly gesturing ahead, offering to let her go in front.

“George, then. Nice to meet you as well. Alright, thanks. And you?”
